Private beta — Rendezvous is a work in progress. Thanks for helping us shape it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how Rendezvous works — and why it works differently.

What is Rendezvous?

Rendezvous is a dating app where you browse real dates — not profiles. Someone plans something they'd genuinely love to do (a cooking class, a sunset hike, a jazz show), and you decide if you want to join them. You connect over the experience first, then discover the person behind it.

How is this different from Tinder?

Tinder reduced dating to a split-second judgment based on how someone looks in a photo. It trained an entire generation to treat people as disposable — swipe left, next. Rendezvous asks someone to plan something, show up, and be present. That's not a feature difference. That's a values difference.

How is this different from Bumble?

Bumble's answer to bad first messages was to make women message first. But that didn't fix anything — it just shifted the burden. On Rendezvous, anyone can create a date and anyone can express interest. But the act of creating a date — planning it, putting thought into it, putting yourself out there — naturally rewards initiative. If a man wants to lead, he leads with action, not a pickup line. If a woman wants to be pursued, she can browse and choose based on the effort someone put in. Nobody's forced into a role.

How is this different from Hinge?

Hinge added prompts and conversation starters to make profiles deeper. But it's still profile-first. You're still looking at someone's face and deciding if their prompt answer is clever enough to deserve your attention. Rendezvous doesn't ask you to perform on a profile. "I got tickets to the jazz show Saturday" tells you more about someone's taste, effort, and intentionality than any prompt answer ever could.

Why can't I just see profiles first?

Because appearance is the least interesting thing about a person, and leading with it creates the wrong filter. When you start with what someone wants to do, you filter by values, taste, and effort — not just by how they look in a photo.

What is a Planner?

The Planner is the person who created the date. They chose the activity, planned the details, and put themselves out there. If you're interested in their date, you express interest — and they choose their guest. It's intentional from both sides.

What does 'Your rendez vous is set' mean?

It means you were chosen. The Planner reviewed everyone who expressed interest and selected you. It's intentional. It means something.

What if I express interest and never get picked?

It happens — just like in real life, not every connection goes somewhere. You'll be able to express interest in as many open dates as you want (based on your tier), and you'll see when a date is filled. If you weren't selected, that date closes quietly — no rejection notification, no score. You just move on to the next one. Think of it like putting your hand up. Sometimes someone else's hand was already up.

Can women create dates too?

Absolutely. Anyone on Plus or Premier can create a date. Some of the best dates on Rendezvous will be created by women — a painting class she actually wants to go to, a record store visit she's been meaning to do. Creating a date isn't about who leads. It's about what you want to do and who you want to do it with.

How long does the Planner have to choose someone?

Until the date's start time. After that, the date closes automatically. There's no hard deadline before that — the Planner picks when they're ready. If you expressed interest and haven't heard anything, the date is still open.

What if nobody expresses interest in my date?

It happens, especially early on. A few things help: being specific about the plan, writing a genuine "Why this date?" description, and choosing a date far enough out that people have time to see it. A Spotlight can also put your date at the top of Browse for more visibility. And if the date passes without a guest — no penalty. Just try again with a different activity or timing.

Can I message someone before the date?

Not before you've been matched. Once the Planner selects you — and only then — you'll both get each other's contact information (a masked number for privacy, so neither of you sees the other's real phone number). That's the moment to coordinate. The app doesn't have an inbox for cold messages, and that's intentional.

Will the Planner see my phone number?

No. When you're matched, both of you get a masked phone number — a temporary proxy number that routes to your real phone. You can text and call through it without revealing your actual number. The masked number expires automatically after the date.

What does the Planner see about me when I express interest?

They see your profile — your photos, bio, prompts, and the intentionality signals you filled in. Only your first name is ever shown on Rendezvous. Last names are never shared with anyone. Your contact info stays completely private until they choose you. This is why completing your profile matters: it's the only thing the Planner is basing their decision on.

How do I know they're a real person?

Every profile goes through a human review before it's approved. We check for fake photos, suspicious patterns, and profiles that don't meet our standards. It's not instant — it takes time. But it's how we keep the quality high. We're not trying to be the biggest dating app. We're trying to be the best one.

What if they look nothing like their photos?

That's a serious breach of trust — and you should report it immediately. Go to their profile after the date and tap "Report." We review every report. People who misrepresent themselves are removed. The whole model only works if people show up as themselves.

What if I need to cancel after I've been chosen?

Life happens — but canceling on someone who planned a date and chose you specifically is a big deal. If you need to cancel, do it as early as possible, and communicate directly with the Planner through your masked contact info. Repeated cancellations after being chosen are tracked in our system. A pattern of this behavior affects your standing on the app.

What happens if someone doesn't show up?

We take that seriously. Planners who cancel or ghost repeatedly are flagged in our system. A profile marked "Unreliable" reflects a pattern of behavior — not a single hard day. We collect feedback after every date and review every report. Your time and safety matter here.

Why do I need to complete my profile?

Because this is a community built on trust and intention. A complete profile tells the person whose date you're interested in that you're serious, you're real, and you've shown up. It's the first act of respect.

Is Rendezvous only for straight people?

No. You set your gender and who you're interested in during sign-up, and Browse shows you dates from people who would match with you. The experience is designed to feel intentional for everyone.

Is Rendezvous only in Denver?

For now, yes. We're starting in Denver to do this right — build a real community, not a thin national network. When we expand to the next city, we'll do the same thing: go deep before going wide. If you're not in Denver, join the waitlist and tell us where you are.

What are the membership tiers?

Free: Browse dates, see basic profiles, show interest (up to 10/month). Cannot create dates.

Plus ($10/mo): Create up to 6 dates/month, unlimited interest, full profiles for everyone.

Premier ($20/mo): Unlimited everything + 1 free Spotlight per month.

What is Spotlight?

Spotlight ($5) places your date at the top of Browse with a featured border and badge. It lasts until your date is filled or the date passes. It's only available when you first create a date — you can't add it after. Premier members get one free Spotlight per month.

Every other dating app asks “do you like how this person looks?”

Rendezvous asks “do you like what this person wants to do with you?”
